Commissioner continues recovery at home

YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County Commissioner Vicki Allen Sherlock is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed neurological condition, but hopes to be back at work soon.
Sherlock, 38, has been off work since Nov. 3, when she was admitted to Forum Health Northside Medical Center. She was later transferred to Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Trumbull County and has since been released, but has not returned to work.
In a written statement issued late Tuesday afternoon, Sherlock said it's too early for a complete prognosis of her condition but she hopes to return to work by the end of the year.
The release does not give details about her illness and said no further comment would be forthcoming. Sherlock said in the statement that she appreciates that her family's privacy has been respected during the illness.
While she's off, Sherlock said she'll continue working from her home, as she has done since she was first hospitalized.
Other officials: Commissioner Ed Reese said he wishes his colleague well.
"She was elected to do a job and we hope she's back with us soon," Reese said. "But in times like this, her health has to come first."
In the meantime, he and Commissioner David Ludt have been able to conduct county business fairly smoothly, Reese said.
He said Sherlock has been in regular contact with the office and is keeping abreast of county business and issues.
