YOUNGSTOWN Man charged after standoff with police

YOUNGSTOWN -- Curtis L. Fitzgerald barricaded himself from police after opening fire while looking for his ex-girlfriend at Marc Wilburn's Breaden Street house over the weekend, police said.
Fitzgerald, 29, of East Myrtle Avenue, surrendered early Sunday, and police arrested him on a felonious assault charge.
Wilburn, 29, was in stable condition today in St. Elizabeth Health Center. He had been shot in the left arm and left hip after allowing Fitzgerald's ex-girlfriend in to call 911.
Wilburn told police that Fitzgerald showed up about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. As Fitzgerald waited outside for his ex-girlfriend to come speak to him, he fired several shots at the house at 357 Breaden, two of which struck Wilburn, police said.
Fitzgerald then ran back to 362 Breaden, his ex-girlfriend's house, and barricaded himself from police. At 8:22 a.m., Fitzgerald gave up and was arrested.
The ex-girlfriend said she had run to Wilburn's house to call 911 after discovering Fitzgerald in her closet when she arrived home about 3:20 a.m. Sunday.
During the standoff, the police department's tactical response team surrounded 362 Breaden and ordered the evacuation of houses in the immediate area.
