Poland boyssplit at Mohawk
BESSEMER, Pa. -- The Poland High boys basketball team opened its season by splitting a pair of games in the Mohawk Tournament last weekend.
The Bulldogs lost to Beaver Falls 82-76 in overtime before beating Slippery Rock 58-40.
Against Beaver Falls, Jamie Dunn led Poland with 29 points, two assists and three steals. Freshman Chad Fender scored 24 while going 10 of 11 from the free throw line and having three assists and three steals.
Neil Harris led Poland with 12 rebounds, seven assists and three steals. David McGarry pulled down 11 boards.
Beaver Falls hit a 25-footer with five seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Against Slippery Rock, McGarry led Poland with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Eric Fender chipped in with eight points, two assists and a team-high six steals. Dunn went 6 of 6 from the free throw line while adding three assists and a steal.

McKie treatedfor heart ailment
PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia guard Aaron McKie was treated for an abnormal heart rhythm and missed the 76ers' game against Memphis.
He was expected to miss at least one more game but might be cleared to play Wednesday against Golden State, 76ers cardiologist Fred Bove said.
McKie, the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year last season, experienced dizziness, shortness of breath and lightheadedness in the first half of Saturday's 93-76 win over the Chicago Bulls. Bulls team doctor Jeffrey Weinberg diagnosed atrial fibrillation, a condition in which the heartbeat is out of rhythm.
Clipper Olowokandiarrested, booked
LOS ANGELES -- Michael Olowokandi of the Los Angeles Clippers was booked on three felony allegations after being arrested early Saturday morning at his home in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Sgt. Steve Tobias said Olowokandi, 26, was arrested around 3:10 a.m. and was booked on allegations of cohabitant abuse, robbery and false imprisonment, all felonies. He was later released on $50,000 bail.
Raider Russelltests positive
NEW YORK -- Defensive tackle Darrell Russell of the Oakland Raiders faces a one-year suspension by the NFL after testing positive for the drug Ecstasy, a league source said.
Russell, who sat out the first four games this season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, will appeal the suspension on Thursday. He will be allowed to play until the appeal is decided.
Fans dispersedwith tear gas
BOULDER, Colo. -- Police used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse fans celebrating Colorado's victory in the Big 12 championship game.
Two officers were injured slightly, and 18 people were arrested Saturday night after the 39-37 win over Texas, police spokeswoman Jennifer Bray said.
Two-year old fillybrings $1 million
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Cameron Hall, a 2-year-old trotting filly, became the first standardbred to bring more than $1 million at auction during the Tattersalls' December Mixed Sale.
Erkki Laakkonen, of Georgetown, Ontario, paid $1.1 million for Cameron Hall, the 2001 Breeders Crown champion. The previous record price for a standardbred was $800,000, paid in 1986 for the 6-year-old trotting mare Winkys Gill.

Garcia's chip shotbeats Els in playoff
SUN CITY, South Africa -- Sergio Garcia made a 20-foot chip shot from the fringe on the first playoff hole to beat Ernie Els and win the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
Garcia forced the playoff by shooting a 9-under-par 63 after starting the day six strokes behind Els, the third-round leader. Els joined the Spaniard at 20-under 268 for regulation.
Olazabal wins withlate flurry of birdies
HONG KONG -- Jose Maria Olazabal birdied the final three holes for a 7-under-par 64 and won the $700,000 Hong Kong Open by a stroke.
Olazabal, a two-time Masters champion, finished at 22-under 262. Norway's Henrik Bjornstad had a 67 for a 263 total. Australia's Adam Scott also closed with a 67 for a 264.
Floyds winfather-son tourney
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas -- Raymond Floyd dominated the Father-Son Challenge again, winning for the fifth time in seven years.
Floyd and his son Robert came from four shots behind first-round leaders Hale and Steve Irwin under the scramble format to with an 11-under-par 61 for a two-round total of 124.
Panthers firecoach, G.M.
TORONTO -- The Florida Panthers, tied for the fewest victories in the NHL, fired coach Duane Sutter and president and general manager Bill Torrey, two Canadian sports networks reported.
The Panthers replaced Sutter with Mike Keenan while assistant general manager Chuck Fletcher was promoted to general manager on an interim basis, TSN and Sportsnet said on their Web sites.
