SHARON, Pa. -- Terrorism and bioterrorism will be the topics of a panel discussion at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Sharon High School Auditorium. Speakers will be Dr. Sergio Segarra, emergency medicine director at Sharon Regional Health System; Dr. James P. Landis Jr., a cardiologist certified in nuclear safety by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Glenn Miller, emergency medical services coordinator and nuclear, biological and chemical hazard officer for the Mercer County Emergency Management Agency; Sharon Police Chief Raymond Greene; and Jim Thompson, Mercer County emergency services director.
Kids' reading program
EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine Memorial Public Library is offering a children's reading program, Countdown to Christmas, through Dec. 24. Children who read 24 books or have the books read to them are eligible for prizes.
Health screenings
VIENNA -- Vienna United Methodist Church, 4265 Warren-Sharon Road, will be the site for health screenings Dec. 22 to detect the risk of stroke and vascular disease and for osteoporosis. Administered by Life Line Screening of Garfield Heights, the vascular screening tests the carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm and angle brachial index. The osteoporosis screen tests bone density.
The tests begin at 9 a.m. Those interested must register at least 24 hours in advance by calling Life Line Screening at (800) 407-4557. Cost is $40 each.
Victorian Christmas
SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- Sharpsville Area Historical Society's Victorian Christmas will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8. The event includes a holiday tour of historic houses, churches and other community buildings, refreshments at Chloe Pierce Memorial Chapel and a 7 p.m. Medieval Christmas concert in the chapel. Included in the tour is the 16-room, 1863-vintage mansion where Jonas J. Pierce, great-great-grandfather of President George W. Bush, resided. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 the day of the tour. Tickets are available at Pompa's Beauty Salon, Mehler's Insurance and Claudia & amp; Co.
