KEYSTONE CLIPS Thiel, Grove City colleges will offer performances



Musical performances at Thiel and Grove City colleges will be among Christmas season highlights in Mercer County this month.
The Christmas Festival, a free annual program of sacred Christmas music, featuring the Thiel College choir and band, chamber singers, and handbell ringers, will be at 4 p.m. today in the college's William A. Passavant Memorial Center in Greenville.
A free candlelight Advent Lessons and Carols service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lutheran Heritage Room of the college's Howard Miller Student Center.
Thiel's holiday celebration concludes with the annual Christmas by Candlelight dinner, featuring performances by
The Rosewood Trio and Thiel College students at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Sawhill-Georgian Room of the student center. Call (724) 589-2240 to make reservations for Saturday's dinner. The cost is $26 per person. Friday's dinner is sold out.
Grove City: At Grove City College, the touring and chapel choirs will perform their annual holiday concert, including selections from Part I of Handel's Messiah, at 6:30 p.m. today in Harbison Chapel.
A series of 12:15 p.m. Christmas concerts will be this week in Carnegie Hall, featuring the flute choir on Monday, gallery brass on Tuesday, touring choir on Wednesday, voice students on Thursday and string ensemble on Friday.
The 27th annual Christmas candlelight services, featuring the college's 43-voice touring choir, will be at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in Harbison Chapel. Annual attendance averages a near-capacity crowd of 1,200 at the first service and 900 at the second. Some 2,400 candles are prepared annually to be held by members of the congregation. All Grove City College Christmas events are free.
Looking for vets: Lawrence County officials are looking for any Pearl Harbor veterans living in the county.
County Veterans Affairs director Brenda Renner said they plan to honor those veterans at a special ceremony at noon Dec. 7 at the Lawrence County Courthouse. This year commemorates the 60th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese.
