Each year, in addition to his annual salary, the prosecutor receives an amount equal to half of his salary -- $49,345 in 2001 -- for a Furtherance Of Justice account. The following expenses, which generally reflect untaxed and reduced "government" rates for air fare and hotel rooms, were paid from the account for out-of-state conferences. In most cases, those with large reimbursements paid air fare or hotel or car rental or had no cash advances to cover costs incurred during the trip.
