CINDERELLA BALL Junior Civic League holds annual gala
Ten young women made their debut during the 46th annual Cinderella Ball.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Junior Civic League chose "An Evening of Elegance" as the theme for its 46th annual Cinderella Ball held Nov. 23 at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman.
Highlighting the evening's presentation of 10 debutantes was the crowning of Tanisha L. Howell as Miss Cinderella and the selection of Shaunta Nicole Huff as first attendant and E'res Cristen Brown as second attendant.
The debutantes and their accomplishments are as follows:
UShalanda Elizabeth Anderson, a daughter of Denise Anderson-Hill and the late Ernest D. Hill, attends Ursuline High School. She is a member of the Key Club, Spanish Club and Multicultural Club, a Tod Children's Hospital volunteer, a guidance counselor monitor, a YMCA summer camp youth group counselor and a member of Big Brothers and Sisters. She plans to major in health and human services at Youngstown State University. Her escort was Shaun L. Jackson.
UE'res Cristen Brown, a daughter of Dr. Ernest E. and Julia Huffman-Brown, attends Liberty High School. She is a member of the Spanish Club, Speech and Debate and ensemble, vice president of Student Council and a varsity cheerleader. She hopes to major in finance at Capital University or Kent State University. Her escort was Eric C. Baldwin.
UEbony Rose Green, a daughter of Karen Clark-Green and the late Michael Green Sr., attends Woodrow Wilson High School. She is a cheerleading captain and a member of the Key Club, Spanish Club, show choir, choir, ensemble, R.A.P.P. and P.R.I.D.E. She plans to major in psychology and advance to medical school. Her escort was John Butler Jr.
UTanisha L. Howell, a daughter of Janeen Runyon and Anthony Warren, attends Ursuline High School and is a member of the Chosen Generation and King's Dominion. She plans to major in nursing at the University of Akron. Her escort was Ketuan Baldwin.
UShaunta Nicole Huff, a daughter of Ike and Janita Henry, attends Austintown Fitch High School and is active in track, cheerleading, Students Against Drunk Driving, and dance. She will major in business administration at Ohio State University. Her escort was Jerome Justice.
UDarla Jean Lynnette Jones, a daughter of Wayne and Karen Bailey Jones, attends Woodrow Wilson High School, and is active in track and field, volleyball, Redmen Against Peer Pressure, Peers Reflecting Intelligent Decisions Effectively, Key Club, Spanish Club and choir, and is a peer mediator and peer tutor. She will major in law at Georgetown University. Her escort was Aaron Young.
UNyelia Rene Page, a daughter of Darrell Ellis and Charlene Page, attends Hubbard High School, where she is the first black female to be elected class president for four years. She is active in varsity volleyball, basketball, track, the President's Club, Key Club, Spanish Club, Future Business Leaders of America and Future Teachers of America, and is state auditor for Buckeye Girls State. She plans to earn a degree in education and social psychology. Her escort was Jerome Lynch.
ULauren Alexis Sullivan, a daughter of Carla Kristin Sullivan and Nathan L. Logan, attends Chaney High School and is captain of Chaney Danceline, a member of the yearbook staff, Spanish Club and Students Against Drunk Driving, a school newspaper reporter and a peer tutor. Her escort was Terrence Sullivan.
UAdelina D. Torres, a daughter of Michael and Denise Torres, attends Chaney High School and is active in the choir and African American Jewish Dialogue. She plans to major in culinary arts. Her escort was Keith Langford.
UNatasha Charmine Ward, a daughter of Willie and Sabrina Ward Parker, attends Woodrow Wilson High School and is active in volleyball, track, band, basketball, the speech team, Spanish Club, Todd Squad, Redmen Against Peer Pressure, Key Club and P.R.I.D.E. She was senior class vice president and president of R.O.C.K., and is a peer mediator and peer tutor. She will enter the premed program at Georgetown University. Her escort was Joseph Parker Jr.
Proceeds from the ball will be earmarked for the scholarship fund.
Mrs. Anne Cobbin and Ms. Elsina Winston were ball chairwomen, and Betty Bogan is league president.
