MERCER Man is sentenced in assault
The shooting was the culmination of a longtime feud.

MERCER, Pa. -- A Transfer man was sentenced to 16 months to 10 years in prison for firing a gun at a neighbor during a dispute.
Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Wherry imposed the term on Michael McGuire, 32, formerly of Mercer Road, Delaware Township, for aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.
According to court documents, McGuire fired three shots from a .22-caliber rifle at a male neighbor Sept. 6. The man was not injured. McGuire said that he had been feuding with the man for years and that the state police had been to the residence several times as a result of the dispute. McGuire, who admitted drinking 1 1/2 pints of wine before the incident, claimed he fired into the ground and did not intend to hurt the man.
He was given credit for 84 days already served in jail.
Theft: Dwight Dempsey, 50, formerly of Hillcrest Street, Sharon, and now of the Crawford County Jail, was sentenced to 16 months to five years in prison for charges stemming from crimes last April.
Dempsey, who has an extensive criminal record, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft for stealing a credit card and three rings, valued at $900, from a Sharon woman's residence and also for stealing a digital camera from the Reinhardt Agency, 101 South Water Ave., Sharon.
He later used the credit card to buy $367 in merchandise.
He was ordered to pay restitution and credited with 205 days already served.
Also sentenced Thursday were:
Leo Lynch, 60, of Waterworks Road, Sewickley, to two years' probation and ordered to pay restitution for receiving stolen property, and fined $200 for driving during suspension.
He was arrested April 16 in the parking lot of the Mercer Motel in Coolspring Township driving a stolen Ford Focus sedan. He was given credit for 119 days already served.
Gino Skowronski, 54, of West First Street, Oil City, was placed on 30 months' probation and ordered to pay restitution for the April 17 theft of $1,250 from the West Middlesex VFW Post, 3747 New Castle Road, Shenango Township, where he was employed.
