GIRLS BASKETBALL Howland rally upends Edgewood
Erin Martin scored 21 points for Canfield in a win over Mooney.
WARREN -- Senior guard Marianne Krezeczowski scored the final six points of the game Friday to lead the Howland High girls basketball team past Ashtabula Edgewood, 42-38.
With a little more than two minutes remaining, the Warriors (2-1) clung to a 38-36 lead.
Krezeczowski, who scored 17 points, hit her final of three 3-pointers to give the Tigers (2-0) the lead.
Down the stretch, Krezeczowski hit three of four foul shots for the final margin.
Kristina Ferenac scored eight points and had 12 of Howland's 30 rebounds.
Canfield 50, Mooney 36: YOUNGSTOWN -- Erin Martin scored seven of her 21 points in the first quarter when Canfield bolted out to an 18-6 lead.
Martin also had 12 rebounds and three 3-point goals while Nicole Vlajkovich scored 13 points for the winners (3-0) who led 30-15 at halftime.
Cardinal Mooney (1-1) junior Aieshya Dixon had her first career triple-double -- 22 points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.
The 10 blocked shots snapped a 10-year old Mooney record of nine by Dee Seidita. The 22 points was also a personal high for Dixon.
Columbiana 60, Jackson-Milton 44: NORTH JACKSON -- Stevie Goist fired in 20 points for Columbiana (3-1) in the non-conference game.
The Clippers broke a 12-12 first-quarter tie to take a 29-10 lead by intermission.
Cara Hardenbrook chipped in with 13 points for the Clippers and Stacie Cross finished with 10.
Jessica Hemphill of Jackson-Milton (0-1) scored 23 points, which included a 13-of-18 effort from the free-throw line.
