Feast celebration
Youngstown -- Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. next Saturday, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, and will be host of a Night of Prayer for Life from 6 to 9 p.m. Eucharistic Adoration, recitation of the rosary, prayers and hymns during a special holy hour with Benediction will be from 8 to 9 p.m.
The local Night of Prayer is being held in conjunction with the 12th annual National Night of Prayer for Life, where people from across the United States pray in unison for life. This year locally, there will also be prayers for the United States.
The National Night of Prayer for Life is always on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, and before Dec. 9, the day commemorating Our Lady of Guadeloupe's first appearance to Juan Diego in 1531 in Mexico. The appearance of the patroness of the unborn and life started the conversion of millions of Aztec Indians to the Catholic Church that ended the Aztec human sacrifices.
Christmas program
CAMPBELL -- The choir of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church will present a free Christmas concert at 5 p.m. Dec. 9. The Acappella Choir will sing traditional Christmas carols along with Russian Christmas music. Walter Rusnak will be a featured soloist, and the Rev. John Steffaro will read the poem "One Solitary Life." Prayers will be offered for the peace of the world. A reception will follow.
Benefit program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor dinner and dancing to the music of Mighty Generation from 7 to 11 p.m. Dec. 14 at St. Mark's Banquet Center in Liberty. The cost is $20 a person. Proceeds will benefit needy families at Christmas. Call (330) 782-8929.
Choral to perform
BOARDMAN -- The 80-member Beaver Valley Choral will perform Christmas music at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday at Western Reserve Baptist Church. The choral was founded in 1930. An offering will be taken and a reception will follow. The event is sponsored by Western Reserve and Calvary Baptist churches and Mount Olivet United Church of Christ.
Christmas stockings
YOUNGSTOWN -- Heart Reach Inc. will have two distributions of Christmas stockings to children and parents Dec. 15. The distributions are at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Eucharistic service
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church will have a Eucharistic service at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Adoration will be from 9 to 11 a.m., when there will be Benediction.
Dickens adaptation
ASHTABULA -- First Assembly of God will present an adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens at 7 p.m. Friday, next Saturday and Dec. 9. In its adaptation, Ebeneezer Scrooge's life becomes full of joy when he meets Jesus. Transportation is available. Call (440) 275-7720.
Christmas concert
HARTVILLE, Ohio -- Gospel Music -- Live! will be host of a Christmas dinner and concert at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Kaufman Center. The Palmetto State Quartet from Greenville, S.C., and The Wilburns from Carthage, Tenn., will perform. The cost is $26 per person. Reservations are required. Call (330) 753-9751.
Musical presentation
LIBERTY -- St. Rocco's Episcopal Church's youth group is presenting excerpts from "Grease" at 7 p.m. Dec. 12. An offering will be taken for the youth group.
Remembrance service
VIENNA -- A holiday remembrance service will be at 10:30 a.m. next Saturday in the Burial Park Chapel of Crown Hill. Those who have experienced a loss are invited to attend. Call (330) 856-4695.
