Professor wins award

YOUNGSTOWN -- An English professor at Youngstown State University has received a poetry award from the Ohioana Library Association, which has a goal of recognizing and encouraging Ohioans for their creative accomplishments.
William Greenway of Liberty, distinguished professor of poetry, modern literature and poetry writing, and a member of the YSU faculty for 16 years, will receive this year's Helen and Laura Krout Memorial Ohioana Poetry Award Oct. 20 in Columbus for his writing and teaching.
Greenway has published more than 400 poems and six collections of his own poetry. Together with Elton Glaser, poetry editor for the University of Akron Press, he has edited "I Have My Own Song for It: Modern Poems of Ohio," which will be published next spring in conjunction with the observance of Ohio's bicentennial.
The $1,000 award is given to an author who makes a significant contribution to poetry and through whose writing, teaching, administrative or community service, interest in poetry has been developed.
The recipient must have been born in Ohio or lived in Ohio for at least five years.
The association also announced that Dec. 31 will be the nomination deadline for most of its 2002 awards in a variety of poetry, prose, art and genealogy categories.
