2 teens from Valley reign as 4-H fair king, queen

CANFIELD -- Royalty was crowned at the fair Thursday when a king and queen were chosen from among 10 4-H members making up this year's royal court.
David Blevins, 18, of Canfield was crowned king; Becky Stape, 19, of Berlin Center was named queen.
Blevins is the son of Ruth and Richard Blevins and is a member of the Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club. He attends Kent State University, Salem, where he majors in horticulture/landscaping. He has been in 4-H for 10 years. He's also served as a 4-H camp counselor and is a member of the Junior Fair Board.
Stape is the daughter of Lora and Rich Stape and is also a member of the Western Reserve Rangers. She attends KSU, where she majors in fashion design and has belonged to 4-H six years. Stape has served as a 4-H state ambassador and is a member of the Junior Fair Board.
The king and queen each received $100 gift certificates to Best Buy and commemorative clocks. Their royal duties over the next year will include promoting 4-H at parades and other community events.
Scholarship winners: After the coronations, the winners of the Darrel Bacon Junior Fair Scholarship were announced and two area teens were named outstanding youths for 2001.
Megan Jones, 18, of Mineral Ridge, and Alison Knight, 18, of Ellsworth Township, each received a $250 scholarship and a commemorative clock.
Jones is the daughter of Anne and Robert Jones and belongs to the Canfield Bridle Buddies 4-H Club. She attends KSU, where she majors in interior design.
Knight is the daughter of Marsha and Ron Knight and belongs to the Western Reserve Rangers. She attends Ohio State University where she majors in animal science.
Youths honored: Outstanding youths are Angela Speece, 18, of Ellsworth and Jay Stanwood, 18, of North Lima.
Speece is the daughter of Robin and William Speece. She has been a Grange member for six years and has represented Grange on the Junior Fair Board for the past three years. She graduated from Western Reserve High School where she was a varsity cross country and track runner and cheerleader. She attends KSU Salem.
Stanwood is the son of Margie and Jay Stanwood. He has been active in Boy Scouts for 13 years, is a member of Troop 116 in Greenford and was named Scout of the Year for the past four years. He attends DeVry Institute of Technology.
Speece and Stanwood were chosen from among 12 outstanding youth finalists.
