Woman sentenced
CLEVELAND -- A Marblehead woman will spend 15 months in prison for her role in defrauding Trumbull Savings and Loan of Warren, now a part of Second National Bank.
Debbie Jean Leonard, 44, of North Buck Road, was sentenced by Judge James S. Gwin of U.S. District Court in Akron, after she pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud.
She was indicted April 18 by a federal grand jury in Cleveland for taking $194,975.
The indictment said that between November 1993 and February 1996, Leonard obtained, altered and forged 66 U.S. Savings Bonds owned by a mentally incompetent elderly woman, who had lived near her, but moved into a nursing home.
Leonard passed herself off as co-owner of the bonds, the indictment says.
