YOUNGSTOWN Man dies of wounds in East Side shooting

This latest homicide victim ran to an East Side bar after being shot multiple times.

YOUNGSTOWN -- In less than a week, the city has recorded its third homicide.
Anthony Bailey, 23, no address given, died at 11:48 p.m. Tuesday after surgery at St. Elizabeth Health Center. He had been shot in the neck, chest and arm about two hours earlier on Miami Street on the East Side.
Bailey was likely the victim of a drive-by shooting, according to reports.
Others: At 3:20 p.m. Sunday, police found Jonathan McClendon shot to death near West Princeton Avenue on the South Side, the victim of a drive-by shooting.
A passenger in McClendon's car, Tyrell Oliver, 22, remained in critical condition today at Forum Northside Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds.
Last Thursday, police found 24-year-old Vaschon May shot to death in the woods behind 1015 Erie St., also on the South Side.
Gunshots: The owner of Jitso's bar, who lives on Miami, told police that he heard several gunshots Tuesday night then saw a young man, later identified as Bailey, run through the front yard toward the bar at 2023 McGuffey Road.
Two men working security for the nightspot who heard the gunfire found Bailey, covered with blood and barely breathing, in the parking lot and pulled him inside, Patrolman William Burton said in his report. While the bartender called 911, bar patrons tended to Bailey's wounds until an ambulance arrived.
A dozen bar patrons, including several men who had been playing pool, told police they heard six to 10 shots. Back-up officers responded to the bar to protect the crime scene and handle crowd control.
A witness who refused to identify herself to police said she heard loud music coming from a car speeding on Dryden Street, not far from the bar, after she heard the gunshots.
Homicide detectives were called to the crime scene, as were crime lab officers. The victim's car was towed and held for detectives, and his personal items, including $900 and a cell phone, were held for the coroner.
Bailey's death is the city's 21st homicide this year. At this time last year, 20 killings had taken place.
