Free health screenings
The Mobile Outreach Team from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Butler, Pa., will offer free health screenings and evaluations for veterans from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 6 and Sept. 13 at American Legion Post 220, Grove City, Pa., and VFW Post 7597, Farrell, Pa., respectively. Veterans are asked to bring their discharge papers. Appointments are not necessary.
PROMOTION
Local man appointed
Navy Capt. Mark Swaney was appointed vice commander of the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, with command headquarters at Point Mugu Navy Base, Calif., making him the ranking officer on the base. He previously was commanding officer of Naval Weapons Test Wing, Pacific, at Point Mugu, with squadrons at Point Mugu and China Lake bases.
Swaney, a 1970 graduate of Youngstown Chaney High School, received a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from Cincinnati University and a master's degree from the University of California at San Diego. He is a son of Norman and Mary Swaney, 104 Spring Garden Drive, Youngstown.

Marine Corps Cpl. Jonathan S. Figley Jr. (East Palestine High School '97) received a Certificate of Commendation while assigned at Combat Service Support Detachment 23, Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, S.C.
