GETTING IT RIGHT

URonald Carcelli, Struthers street foreman, is using unused vacation time pending his retirement. Carcelli's unused vacation time runs out Dec. 12. In an Aug. 17 letter to Struthers Mayor Daniel C. Mamula, Carcelli said, "I will be retiring upon completion of my vacation days. This is due to my two major illnesses." Carcelli also has accrued 1,921.2 hours -- about 240 days -- of sick-leave time. Although he is on leave, the last day he reported to work was Aug. 10. Based on incorrect information provided by city officials, a story in Thursday's editions said Carcelli's retirement date was Jan. 1 and the last day he reported to work was Aug. 13.
UGirard Mayor James Melfi did not inform Gov. Bob Taft that Charles W. Syak, a nominee to serve on the city's fiscal planning and supervision commission, is 86, as reported Wednesday. Melfi told the governor that he appointed Frank Rich, another nominee, as Girard's director of safety and human resources.
