Commissioners consider bids for restoration project

MERCER -- Mercer County commissioners dealt with contracts for ongoing restoration work on the county courthouse. They awarded a contract to American Asbestos Control Company, Cranberry Township, which bid $33,720, to remove abestos from the boiler house and tunnel in the courthouse basement. Work will begin within 30 days.
Commissioners also opened bids Thursday for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning for the courthouse. Bidders were: Renick Brothers, Slippery Rock, $497,000; A & amp;B Mechanical, New Castle, $493,000; and Wayne Crouse, Inc., Pittsburgh, $524,860. The contract is expected to be awarded Sept. 13.
In other business, commissioners re-appointed L. DeWitt Boosel of Mercer County Housing Authority and James Winner, Jr. of Winner Holdings, Sharon, to the West Central Workforce Investment Board. Vincent Cardamon of Reyers Shoe Store, Sharon, Arthur Catterson of Sharon Tube Co., Sharon, and Julie Widel, representing Sandy Lake, of Volant, also were appointed. All terms are three years.
Commissioners also re-appointed Joseph Baldwin of Sharon to the Mercer County Solid Waste Authority, Charles Bestwick of Hermitage to the Mercer County Industrial Authority Board and Tim Jablon of Clark to the Mercer County Housing Authority Board. All are five-year terms.
