SHARON, Pa. -- Police said a Cedar Avenue woman was arrested after police said she hid her juvenile daughter and another juvenile girl in her home after they ran away from a residential home for girls in Farrell.
Police served Patricia M. Gammon, 44, with a warrant Wednesday charging her with hindering apprehension, corruption of minors and interfering with custody of a minor child.
She was arraigned before District Justice James McMahon, who freed her on her own recognizance. Police said her daughter was in the custody of Mercer County Juvenile Probation and the other girl was in the custody of Butler County Children & amp; Youth Services when they ran away from the Farrell residence Aug. 20.
Police went to Gammon's home and she denied the girls were there, but police said they found them hiding in the attic.
Discussing con artists
CLARK, Pa. -- John Kelly, South Pymatuning Township police chief, will be the guest speaker at the Shenango Recreation Area campground on Shenango River Lake at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Kelly's topic will be con artists and how to avoid them. The one-hour program will offer tips about phony frauds and schemes that cost victims about $40 billion a year. The session will be in the campground's Lakeside Pavilion and is free.
Burglary reported
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- Police said someone pried open a screen on a window at the back of a home in the 400 block of Loop Street earlier this week and stole a television set, compact discs and makeup.
Police seek con man
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police are looking for a gold-toothed, quick-change artist who conned a sales clerk out of $150.
Police didn't identify the store but said the con man entered a business in the 1600 block of East State Street around 9 p.m. Wednesday and, in a series of requests for various bill denominations in his change, managed to take $150 from a clerk.
The man had a gold front tooth and several other teeth were missing. He was described as being black, in his 40s, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 250 pounds.
Teen-ager awaits trial
LISBON -- A 16-year-old Center Township boy is awaiting sentencing in an assault and two counts of public indecency earlier this summer on the Greenway Trail.
In two occurrences, the boy confronted women and girls walking on the 12-mile-long hike-bike trail and exposed himself, authorities said. During one of the episodes, he knocked a 17-year-old girl to the ground. She was not injured.
The boy admitted to the crimes Thursday before Judge Thomas Baronzzi of Columbiana County Juvenile Court. Sentencing options include probation, counseling and detention. The boy is under house arrest pending sentencing.
Break-ins reported
SALEM -- St. Paul of Salem School on East State Street was broken into recently but nothing was taken, police said. Inside the school, police found several locks were broken but nothing appeared missing. The crime was reported Thursday morning.
Break-ins at two residences also were reported Thursday. Nothing was taken from a home on the 200 block of Railroad Street. Between $700 and $1,000 was stolen from a home on the 300 block of West Pine Lake Road in Perry Township.
Donation to mission
YOUNGSTOWN -- Target Stores of Niles donated $1,560 to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley earlier this month to refurbish its family service division.
Target employees will donate their time and labor Saturday to make the improvements.
Art show benefit
YOUNGSTOWN -- An art show to benefit Helping Other Women will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lincoln Christian Church.
A variety of art pieces in various styles will be for sale.
