Police investigateteen's allegations
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report that a 32-year-old Selkirk Avenue woman had sex with a 15-year-old boy in her basement.
The boy told police he was at the woman's house earlier this month when she asked him to come into her basement, where she has a tanning bed. The woman is the sister of the boy's uncle's girlfriend.
Once in the basement, the woman undressed and asked the boy to rub tanning lotion on her body, the boy said. The two then had sex, he said.
The boy reported the woman to police Wednesday.
The boy also told police that a 34-year-old man who lives with the woman forced him to steal a cell phone from a store. The boy said the man then gave him the cell phone as payment for cleaning his garage.
The boy's uncle told police that the 34-year-old man has a young daughter who acts like a dog and eats dog food.
Forged check cashed
AUSTINTOWN -- The manager of First Place Bank on Mahoning Avenue told police that a Woodland Trace woman cashed a forged check worth $2,500 at the bank earlier this month.
The manager said she recently received notification that the check had been forged. The Woodland Trace woman, 34, deposited $500 from the check into a checking account, the manager said. She took the rest of the money in cash. Police are investigating the report.
Man exposes himself
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report that a man exposed himself to a woman Wednesday while in his car at the Drive Thru News and Lottery on South Raccoon Road.
The woman, who was working at the business, told police the man drove up to the north side of the business around noon Wednesday and handed her a piece of paper bearing lottery numbers. When she took the paper, the woman said she realized the man had his pants and underwear down and he was exposing himself.
The woman said she turned away in disgust and waited on another customer. The man sat in the car at the business for a few seconds before driving away, she said.
The woman said the man is a regular at the business. She said he is in his late 60s and wears glasses.
Family services grant
YOUNGSTOWN -- Children's and Family Services of Youngstown has received a $123,600 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The agency, located at 535 Marmion Ave., will use the funds to support a runaway and homeless youth center.
Agency renews grant
NILES -- The Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services has renewed a $300,000 grant for the Mahoning County Chemical Dependency Program's Northeast Ohio Regional Center of Adolescent Treatment in Niles for the fiscal year that began July 1. NORCAT is a 24-bed residential facility for adolescent males.
Firefighters test open
GIRARD -- The civil service commission has decided to open the test for fire chief to firefighters. Capt. Frank Capella was named acting chief earlier this year.
The commission prepared to give the test to four captains, all of whom applied, but then only Capt. Sal Ponzio decided to take it. The commission ruled Wednesday that the test will be open to all 12 firefighters so it's competitive. Below chief, the department has only the ranks of captain and firefighter.
