WEATHERSFIELD School district will dedicate sports complex

Fireworks will follow the dedication ceremony.
MINERAL RIDGE -- The Weathersfield Local School District's new Joe Lane Sports Complex will be dedicated Sunday starting at 6 p.m. with a parade down state Route 46 to the new stadium.
Dedication ceremonies will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by fireworks.
The parade will start at Ohltown Road. Events planned for the evening will be held regardless of the weather, school board president Douglas Darnall said.
Looking at repairs: In other business at its meeting Tuesday, the board voted to seek approval from the Ohio School Facilities Commission to borrow money to replace the roof and two heating units at the high school.
Tom Ulmer, National Project Manager of FirstEnergy Services said the work would be done under House Bill 264, and the planned work is expected to cost $1,090,000. The commission must approve the plans.
The board also approved taking bids for a 17,000-square-foot addition to Seaborn Elementary School. Voters last fall approved a 1.6-mill bond issue to raise $2 million for an addition to Seaborn.
The high school energy project will also include installing new controls so the temperature in different areas inside the building can be adjusted.
The district would borrow the money to pay for the work. The money borrowed must be used for energy conservation measures that would generate enough savings to pay off the loan, under requirements of H.B. 264, school Treasurer Angela Lewis said.
