Afternoon reception held Aug. 12 to honor Ubers on 50th anniversary



FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Uber, 6146 Whiskey Creek Drive, formerly of Canfield and Boardman, was celebrated during an afternoon reception held in honor of the couple Aug. 12 at the Holiday Inn, Boardman.
Invitations for the festivity were issued by their children and their spouses, Carolyn and Jerry Stone-burner and Jeffrey and Sue Uber, all of Canfield; Scott and Michele Uber of Gahanna; and Sherri and Tom Leonard of Dublin.
The former Barbara Stanton and Mr. Uber were married Sept. 15, 1951, at the rectory of St. Patrick Church in Youngstown. They have 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren
In 1990 Mrs. Uber retired from Western Reserve Care System in Youngstown where she was a patient-admitting clerk.
Mr. Uber served with the U.S. Army and was a corporal at General MacArthur's headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, from January 1944 to December 1945. He retired in 1983 as a foreman at LTV Steel Corp. in Youngstown after 30 years of service, and in 1990 he retired after six years employment in maintenance at Canfield High School.
The Ubers moved to Florida in 1990.
