A lawsuit for every occasion

The case of three hikers who tried to leap over a hot spring in Yellowstone National Park a year ago was tragic -- one died and two were severely burned.
Now one of the survivors has filed suit against the federal government, claiming the park didn't do enough to warn them of how dangerous it could be to hike among hot springs. The one they leapt into was 178 degrees.
The three, all summer park employees, were hiking in the dark about eight miles from the geyser Old Faithful, when they attempted to vault what they thought was a thin stream. It was not.
They made a terrible mistake, with horrible consequences. But it was their mistake, and the government should not be expected to bear the financial burden of that error.
