SRU professor to head advisory panel

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (AP) -- A Slippery Rock University associate professor has been elected to head the 18-member Conservation and Natural Resources Advisory Council.
Dr. Paulette Johnson, who teaches classes in parks and recreation and the environment, will oversee the group, which serves as adviser to the state's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Council members are appointed by Gov. Tom Ridge and members of the House and Senate.
Members advise state officials on conservation matters and stewardship of natural resources in Pennsylvania.
Johnson has taught at Slippery Rock since 1988 and has been a council member since 1995. She also serves as director of the Pennsylvania Center for Environmental Education, based at the university.
