Board boosts allowances for meals,



NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Union Area School Board increased meal allowances Wednesday from $4 to $6 for breakfast, $6 to $9 for lunch and $14 to $18 for dinner for school board members, administrators, teachers and other individuals working on behalf of the school district.
The school board also agreed Wednesday to pay Preston Motors of New Castle $150 a month for the use of a driver training vehicle for the 2001-02 school year and agreed to buy a three-quarter ton pickup truck from Westgate Ford Truck Sales Inc. of Austintown for $23,662.
The board agreed to allow the Carolyn Knox Foundation of New Castle to use the high school auditorium and gym from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 10 for a workshop.
Josie Newton of New Castle was named an eighth-grade girls' basketball coach and Rachel Folda of New Castle was named a seventh-grade girls' basketball coach for the 2001-02 school year. Each will be paid $1,500 for the year.
