LISBON Village sets bicentennial fest

Fund-raisers will be held to help pay for the celebration.
LISBON -- The village will celebrate its 200th anniversary July 3-6, 2003.
The celebration was scheduled recently by Lisbon Bicentennial Inc., a private, nonprofit group of area residents who are organizing it.
Activities: Activities planned include a reunion of all David Anderson High School classes, a costume ball, fireworks and a parade.
The parade will feature floats created by David Anderson High School classes and floats entered by village residents.
Food also will be part of the event, but no commercial vendors will be invited.
Instead, the bicentennial committee will ask local churches, clubs and organizations to set up food stands.
The committee is trying to organize fund-raisers to help pay for the activities, said committee President Cheryl Mills.
No precise fund-raising goal has been set.
"We just know we're going to need money. It'll be into the thousands," Mills said.
Among the fund-raising activities being considered are a tour of some of the village's grand homes and a community-wide yard sale.
Logo: The bicentennial committee also is working on a logo that will be used in conjunction with the celebration.
The village will be observing its 200th birthday at the same time as the state is celebrating its bicentennial.
Mills said she's not worried about the statewide celebration's taking attention away from the village's observance.
"I think one will help the other," she said.
