KEYSTONE CLIPS Taking nominations for unsung hero

The Kiwanis Club of Greenville is looking for an unsung hero. The club is seeking nominations for its annual Unsung Hero Award, a tribute to an individual who makes a significant contribution to the well-being of the Greenville community but gets little or no public acknowledgment. Anyone can submit a nomination, and the selection of an honoree will be made by a committee of Kiwanians. The honoree will be invited to a club luncheon in September, and a check for $100 will be written to the winner's favorite charity. Nominations are due by Aug. 25 and nominating forms are available at the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce office at 206 Main St.
Photo contest: What makes Mercer County a great place in which to live? The Mercer County Regional Planning Commission wants people to respond to that question with a photograph. The agency is sponsoring a photo contest to mark its 50th anniversary next year. Photos must be of scenes, people or activities that depict life in Mercer County. Entries must be received by Nov. 9 and first-, second- and third-place winners will be selected in both amateur and professional categories. All winners will be invited to the agency's 2001 dinnerDec. 19 and their photos will be displayed throughout the county next year. Technology in schools: There will be some new technology at three area schools thanks to grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The grants are given through the department's Link-to-Learn: Students Achieving Standards Program, which moves the focus of the Link-to-Learn program from simply acquiring technology for schools to using it to help students achieve academic standards, master basic skills and increase parents' involvement. In Lawrence County, Ellwood City Area School District is getting $30,000. In Butler County, Moniteau School District will get $65,114 and Karns City Area School District will get $67,680.
