HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Shenango Valley Mall will have an Extreme Sports show from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
A number of vendors of sporting equipment and recreational vehicles will have displays for the show, which will run at the same time as the Shenango Valley YMCA 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in the mall parking lot.
Intruder seen at house
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said a McClure Avenue woman got a surprise when she returned from the grocery store.
The victim told police that she returned home around 2:05 a.m Tuesday and spotted a man wearing black clothing and a ski mask coming out of her house.
The man fled, and apparently nothing was taken, police said.
There was no sign of forced entry.
The only description of the man is that he is white and about 5 feet 10 inches tall.
Equipment stolen
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- About $7,800 worth of equipment was stolen from a Union Township construction site. Pennsylvania State Police said a laser transit, a concrete saw with a diamond blade, three generators and one air compressor were taken sometime between 4 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday at the construction site on Winter Road. The items are owned by Cricket Construction Ltd. of Lowellville, Ohio.
Woman injured in wreck
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said a Wisconsin woman was seriously injured when her car overturned on Interstate 80 in Shenango Township around 1 p.m. Tuesday. Sarah M. Lefeber, 21, of Mequon, Wis., was westbound when she lost control of her car and it ran into the grassy median and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof and trapping her inside, police said. Fire rescue personnel freed her from the wreckage and she was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she was in critical condition today.
Pa. man faces charges
SHARON, Pa. -- Police have charged a Kittanning man with theft and receiving stolen property. Jeffrey S. Sacik, 31, was arrested on a warrant at the Mercer County Jail around noon Tuesday. Police said he was in jail for failing to appear at a court hearing in an unrelated case. Sacik is accused of taking an air compressor, an air gun, a nail gun and a chain saw from The Rental Corral on East Budd Street on May 7. He tried to pay for the rental with a check written on a closed account and fled with the equipment while the store clerk was on the telephone with Mellon bank checking on the account, police said. The air compressor was returned by another person a few days later, police said. Sacik was arraigned before District Justice Henry Russo and returned to jail.
Arson ruled in case
SHARON, Pa. -- Arson was listed as the cause of a fire that damaged a garage at 367 North St. around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Owner Eric Branch told authorities he came home around 11:15 p.m. and everything was OK. He said he was in his kitchen cooking about 10 minutes later when he noticed flames on the northwest corner of his garage. Firefighters said the blaze was started on old car seats on the ground outside the garage. The flames spread to the interior before the fire was brought under control. The garage contained a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass and some furniture, police said. Officials didn't say whether the car and furniture were damaged.
