SANDLOTS Stadium/P.J.'s in command in Class AA



The Metros are traveling to a national tournament in Johnstown, Pa.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Stadium/Pal Joeys, with a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 series for the Class AA championship, was leading Youngstown Metros 6-1 in the sixth inning Saturday night at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
The game was not completed in time for this edition.
Stadium/Pal Joeys 9, Metros 8: Winning pitcher Chico Swearengen went 2-for-4 and singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Metros had taken an 8-2 lead, but Stadium/Pal Joeys scored three runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to tie it 8-8.
Caleb Goist of Metros went 3-for-5 with a double and two singles, and Andy Caparoulo hit a triple, double and single.
Chuck Ciambotti led Stadium/Pal Joeys with a double and single. Gary Kohler added a pair of singles in four trips to the plate.
Metros in Nationals: The Metros, having won the All-American Amateur Baseball Association (19-20-year-old) regional tournament at Zanesville Friday night, were traveling today to Johnstown, Pa., for the National AAABA event (double elimination), which gets underway Monday.
The Metros (3-1) won the regional tournament by topping Chicago Metropolitan 3-2 for the crown. Paul Kello went the distance (nine innings) Friday to pick up the win.
NABF set to start: The NABF Major Division Regional tournament will be held at Pemberton-Donnell and Cene parks starting Thursday. Stadium/Pal Joeys (26-8) and Youngstown Metros (29-10) are entered in the field of 12 teams.
