Eagle award
Kenneth S. Stiver II, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth S. Stiver Sr. of Sexton Street, Struthers, received his Eagle Scout award in a court of honor Saturdayin Struthers Presbyterian Church.
Stiver entered Scouting with Pack 101 at 7, and at 12 joined Boy Scout Troop 101, which is based at the church. He has earned 23 merit badges.
He has held leadership positions of senior patrol leader, patrol leader, scribe, quartermaster, assistant patrol leader, librarian and chaplain's aide among others. His Scouting awards include tote-n-chip and the Stambaugh Triangle.
His Eagle service project was to build a swing for those in wheelchairs to use at Mauthe Park in Struthers.
Stiver attends Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Youngstown, where he is an acolyte and youth group member.
HONORS
Big Brothers, Sisters
Big Brothers & amp; Big Sisters of Mahoning Valley have announced the recipients of their top awards for 2000.
Arthur Hewitt of Warren is Big Brother of the year; Renee Buckner of Poland is Big Sister of the year; and Joan Gibson of Winona is volunteer of the year.
Hewitt has been matched three years with two boys and has served as their mentor and friend.
Buckner has been matched to her little sister since 1999. The BBBS said Buckner finds time to mentor and hang out with her little sister despite going to college and having a full-time job.
Gibson is guidance counselor for Sebring elementary schools. She has been involved with the Big Brothers & amp; Big Sisters Sebring High School Program since its inception more than four years ago.
She has coordinated the elementary students in its program and helped with all the high school program activities.
50 years of funerals
Area funeral directors McCullough Williams Jr., founder of Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home, Carlie Hall Barnett of Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, Warren, and Louis Rossi of Rossi Bros. Funeral Home, Boardman, were honored last week in Columbus for 50 years' service in the funeral business by the Ohio Funeral Directors Association.
Rossi, who died last year, was recognized posthumously.
Williams said his interest to become a mortician was sparked when he was a 14-year-old in a civics class at Princeton Junior High.
He served as president of the Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors of Ohio in 1992 and serves on the National Examining Board of Funeral Directors of the United States.
Hall Funeral Home was started by Barnett's father, Carl, in the 1920s. She has worked at the funeral home in various capacities.
