Annual plant sale
CANFIELD -- The floriculture and landscaping programs at Mahoning County Career & amp; Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, will have their annual spring bedding plant sale from May 10 through the end of the school year. The sale will be each school day from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., except May 10, when special hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bedding plants, hanging baskets, geraniums and vegetable plants will be available, as will varieties of flowering annuals. Skin cancer screening
LISBON -- The Columbiana County Health Department will conduct a free skin cancer screening Tuesday at the health department, 7360 state Route 45. Any Columbiana County resident with a suspicious sore that will not heal, a mole or wart that has changed or a change in color pigmentation of the skin may take advantage of the free screening by calling (330) 424-0272 to schedule an appointment.
Drug trafficking charges
AUSTINTOWN -- Police arrested two 19-year-old township men and four juveniles Friday on drug trafficking charges. The adults, of Westchester and South Timber Ridge drives, will face two counts each of marijuana trafficking, police said. The juveniles face charges of trafficking in Ecstasy, marijuana and counterfeit controlled substances.
Road to be closed
NEWTON FALLS -- Newton Falls Bailey Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, about one mile east of the city, for the grinding and paving of a railroad underpass. The Trumbull County Engineer's office advises motorists to use Ravenna Warren Road, state Route 5, Center World South Road and Kale Adams Road.
GED exam preparation
WARREN -- The city school district's Adult Basic and Literacy Education program is preparing to help students pass the high school equivalency exam for graduation before changes to the test become effective. Beginning in January, the GED Testing Service in Washington, D.C., will release a redesigned series of GED tests. A new scoring system will also be implemented, along with a change in the test's scope and format. The program will also help GED candidates prepare for the new test, which will be released next year. A listing of class sites can be obtained by calling ABLE at (330) 841-2272, Ext. 261.
Woman dies in crash
NORTH JACKSON -- A North Benton woman died of injuries in an accident Saturday morning on Interstate 76 near Bailey Road. Sue S. Gold, 57, of Eddy Lane, North Benton, was ejected from the vehicle she was driving. The other driver, Ann M. Creekmore, 33, of Hightree Ave. S.E., Warren, was treated at Trumbull Memorial Hospital after the 8:31 a.m. accident. Both vehicles were eastbound, with the sport utility vehicle driven by Gold in the driving lane and the car driven by Creekmore in the passing lane. Creekmore changed lanes to the right, hitting the rear of the SUV and forcing it off the right side of the road into a ditch, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The SUV flipped end-over-end, striking the embankment, the patrol said. An investigation continues.
