YSU Panels pare lists for 2 jobs

Six candidates for the position of provost will be interviewed today and Saturday.

YOUNGSTOWN -- A search committee has forwarded the names of three candidates for Dr. David Sweet to consider as the university's new vice president for financial affairs.
They are:
UDr. Richard Bebee, business dean of Salisbury State University in Maryland.
UJames Fletcher, a private consultant and former vice president for business and finance at Morehouse College in Atlanta.
UTerry Ondreyka, associate vice president of finance at West Virginia University.
An 11-member search committee interviewed four candidates over the past three weeks. The only candidate not recommended was Richard White, controller of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
It's now up to Sweet to select a person for the job. The board of trustees created the position in December to oversee YSU's budget, payroll, accounting, audit, investment and other fiscal functions.
Provost search: Meanwhile, a separate committee searching for a new YSU provost will interview these six candidates today and Saturday at the Sheraton Hotel at Cleveland Municipal Airport:
UDr. Tony Atwater, dean of the college of professional studies and education at Northern Kentucky University.
UDr. Hsien-tung Liu, dean of the college of arts and sciences at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.
UDr. David Williams, assistant vice president for institutional diversity at Central Michigan University.
UDr. Mary Ellen Mazey, dean of the college of liberal arts at Wright State University.
UDr. Braja Das, dean of the college of engineering and computer science at California State University in Sacramento.
UDr. Rochelle Kelz, dean of the college of arts and sciences at Indiana University, Kokomo Campus.
One of the candidates, Paul Schollaert, dean of the college of arts and sciences at Illinois State University, has withdrawn because he accepted a provost position at another institution, said Dr. George McCloud, dean of YSU's College of Fine and Performing Arts and head of the provost search committee.
After the interviews, the panel hopes to select four finalists who will be invited to campus for extensive two-day interviews in May, McCloud added.
The provost oversees YSU's academic programs and is second in charge on campus behind the president. Dr. James Scanlon, YSU provost since 1992, left YSU in March to become president of Missouri Western State College.
