Rifle club hosts contest
The Cougars Junior Rifle Team recently hosted an NRA National Four-Position Junior Section Competition at the Fish & amp; Game Club of Vienna. Twelve teams and 54 shooters took part.
The Cougars earned several medals as well, including first place gold medallion to Laura Kuntz of Columbiana and second place silver medallion to Chris Keller of Girard. Third place bronze medallion went to Robert Kovalan of Girard, with the Armadillos Junior Rifle Team from the Western Reserve Gun Club.
The first place junior medal went to Gary Meglich of Wadsworth and second place to Ben Delong of Oil City, Pa. First place intermediate junior award went to Cougar member Leslie Knapp of Brookfield, second place intermediate junior award was won by Paul Becks of Medina while third place intermediate junior award was captured by Cougar member Stephanie Birmingham of New Springfield.
First place subjunior was awarded Julie Winters of Oil City, second subjunior to Jeff Naswadi of Medina and third subjunior to Elizabeth Neumeyer, also of Medina. First place JROTC award went to Brad Virden with second going to Sam Booher, both from the Beaver Local Marine JROTC program.
Overall, the Vienna Cougars Team 1 took the Team Gold Medal with 1,547 of 1,600 points. First place team honors were won by the Ashland Eagles from Medina with 1,532 points. Vienna Cougars Team 2 took first place intermediate junior team honors with 1,482 points. First place JROTC went to the Beaver Local MJROTC team while the first place scholastic team award went to the Howland High School team.
