Heartland school to start programs

COLUMBIANA -- Heartland Christian School will launch a preschool and day-care program in September.
Administrator Dallas Lehman said the preschool program for children ages 3 to 5 is the next step in the school's development and its mission of offering a quality Christian education.
In its fifth year, Heartland has 163 pupils in kindergarten through 12th grades. It occupies the old Columbiana High School at 28 Pittsburgh St.
The preschool will be in the former industrial arts area, which is being renovated.
When they begin: The day-care program, which will include latchkey services before and after school, begins Aug. 28, the same day classes open. Preschool classes begin Sept. 4.
The school's annual benefit auction is 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Among the more than 600 items to be auctioned are antiques, gift certificates, furniture, a fishing cruise, sports collectibles, Pirates and Indians game tickets and handmade crafts.
Lehman said the auction is the school's biggest fund-raiser. Last year's generated about $12,000.
