VELMA A. MAY, 83 Was co-founder of Hummel Gift Shop



NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in New Springfield Church of God for Velma A. May, 83, of 1812 Garfield Road, who died Wednesday morning in Salem Community Hospital.
Mrs. May was born May 21, 1917, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Davis and Bertha Porter Linhart, and came to this area from Erie.
She was co-founder of the Evel-Gada Corp. and the Hummel Gift Shop, both in New Springfield.
She attended the church where she was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and had taught Sunday school.
A gardener, she worked with other gardeners beautifying public areas in the New Springfield area.
Her husband, J. Everett, whom she married Nov. 12, 1938, died May 11, 1992.
She leaves a daughter, Gala J. Slagle of New Springfield; a son, David H. of New Springfield; a sister, Jean Tanner of Anderson, Ind.; and three brothers, James Linhart of West Palm Beach, Fla., William Linhart of New Springfield and Robert Linhart of San Raphael, Calif.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home in Poland and for one hour before services Saturday in the church.
