Hermitage job search expands

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The school board is expanding its search for a Hickory High School principal.
Karen Ionta, who takes over as superintendent July 1, said the board has re-advertised the position, hoping to increase the number of candidates.
She said five of the candidates who responded to the initial advertisement were interviewed, but the board wants to make sure everyone who is interested gets a chance to apply.
She did not know the total number of applicants.
New deadline: A new advertisement went out over the Internet and is appearing in newspapers and other publications. The new deadline for applications is May 15.
The post is being filled on an interim basis by Eric Trosch, a middle school guidance counselor.
Trosch was first moved into the high school in September as interim dean of students after the resignation of the assistant principal.
He was named interim principal when Dr. Kathleen Nogay resigned from that job in February.
Jeanette Whitehead, a high school guidance counselor, was named interim dean.
Ionta said the board wants to fill the principal's post first and allow the new principal to help select an assistant.
