DR. HAROLD J. HASSEL, 78 Anesthesiologist at Forum Health



BROOKFIELD -- Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Madasz Funeral Home for Dr. Harold J. Hassel, 78, of 1845 Imperial Golf Course Blvd., Naples, Fla., formerly of Brookfield, who died Monday evening in Naples Community Hospital.
Dr. Hassel, known as "Hoot," was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Sharon, a son of Harold S. and Ruth E. Fitzgerald Hassel.
He was a graduate of Sharon High School, Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pittsburgh University and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He served in the Army during World War II, where he achieved the rank of sergeant.
Dr. Hassel was employed as an anesthesiologist at Forum Health, Youngstown, for 25 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Ohio Society of Anesthesiology, the American Society of Anesthesiology, the State of Ohio Medical Board, Youngstown Hospital Association, Mahoning County Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Sharon, and a former member of the Youngstown Club, Tippecanoe Country Club, Sharon Country Club and Sharon Hunting & amp; Fishing Club. He held an FAA private pilot license. He was a philanthropist for higher education.
Among others, he leaves a sister, Diane R. O'Hara, of Boardman.
Two brothers, Richard E. and Gerald P., are deceased.
Friends may call one hour before services at the funeral home.
