Park to be site of teen dances

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Mayor Timothy Fulkerson is tired of hearing young people say there is nothing to do here.
They won't have that complaint for at least three nights in June, the mayor said.
Anyone 13 to 18 can come to city-sponsored dances at Cascade Park June 14, 21 and 28.
"We are trying to get them to be a part of Cascade Park. A lot of us went to the park for dances when we were younger and have fond memories. We want to give them the experience," the mayor said.
Admission will be $5.
Fulkerson said the dances will be chaperoned by adults, including two police officers who work with school-based programs and Joe Sarbo of Lawrence County Cares, a program in the New Castle and Wilmington schools.
The mayor said there will be zero tolerance at the dances -- no smoking and no music containing vulgar language.
More dances will be planned for July and August if the first three are successful, he said.
