JOHN POPOVICH, 85
MASURY -- Services were at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, for John Popovich, 85, formerly of 8137 Warren-Sharon Road, who died Saturday at the veterans home after a long illness.
Mr. Popovich was born July 13, 1915, in Lemont, Pa., a son of Trivun and Mary Popovich.
He attended Brookfield and Sharon high schools and played football at Sharon High School. He retired after 35 years at Midland Ross, where he was a chipper. He was a Catholic.
He served as a medic in the Army Air Corps' 529th Fighter Squad, 311th Fighter Group, in the India-Burma-China theater of operations during World War II. He achieved the rank of corporal and was awarded the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the VFW in Farrell.
He leaves a brother, Stephen of Masury; three sisters, Dorothy Bulik of Hermitage, Mary Turanyi of Masury and Mildred Wright of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
Two sisters, Anne and Elizabeth Popovich, and four brothers, Nick, Mike, Lewis and George, are deceased.
Arrangements are by Quick-Park and Pfeil Funeral Home in Sandusky. A memorial service will be at a later date at Sacred Heart Church in Sharon.
