OLIVE RUTH McCANN, 79 Administrator, teacher in Struthers
STRUTHERS -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Davis Funeral Home, Boardman, for Olive Ruth McCann, 79, of Beeghly Oaks, Boardman, formerly of Helena Drive, who died Friday afternoon at the home.
Mrs. McCann was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of William and Gustava Kruell Motz, and lived in this area most of her life.
A graduate of Youngstown College with a bachelor's degree in education, she received her master's in education at Westminster College in New Wilmington, and had compiled hours toward a doctoral degree. She was a teacher and administrator for the Struthers School District for 36 years, retiring in 1991, and had also worked for the Youngstown Sheet & amp; Tube Co. during World War II.
A member of First Christian Church of Youngstown, she was a member of the American Association of University Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, National Education Association, Ohio Education Association and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Delta Kappa Gamma honorary sororities, and had been involved in negotiating the first contract for teachers with master's degrees for Struthers schools.
Besides her husband, Edward, she leaves a son, Mark of Struthers; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and for one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
