Company bids to drill well for district
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Hermitage School District got one bid in its quest to have a gas well drilled on school property.
School officials said they hope to secure free gas from a well to help heat the Delahunty Middle School at 419 N. Hermitage Road. The targeted drilling site is adjacent to that building.
School officials said rising natural gas prices and a gas heating bill of $210,000 this school year, which is nearly double the budgeted amount, prompted the interest in having a well drilled.
D & amp;L Energy Group Inc. of Salt Springs Road, Youngstown, was the sole bidder.
D & amp;L would assume all the cost and risk of drilling and would give the school district a $5,000 signing bonus and 500,000 cubic feet of gas free each year the well is in operation.
School officials opened the bid Monday, noting that four companies had been sent bidding specifications for the job.
The D & amp;L proposal will go to the school board, which has the final decision on the well issue.
