AMBROSE M. KRAPACS, 77
MASURY -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church, Sharon, for Ambrose M. Krapacs, 77, of 8159 Wheeler St. N.E., who died late Monday at his home.
Mr. Krapacs was born Dec. 11, 1923, in Yatesboro, Pa., a son of Ambrose and Julia Kuzma Krapacs.
A 1941 graduate of Sharon High School, he was a pipe fitter for Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric, where he worked for 36 years before retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the church, Knights of Columbus Masury Council 490, Jednota Lodge 414 of Farrell, Slovak American Culture Association in Youngstown, the Slovak Home in Farrell, and St. Matthias Slovak Class in Youngstown.
He was a decorated Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served as a nose gunner with the 98th Bomber Group on the B-24 "Liberator" with 50 combat missions over France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Greece and Yugoslavia. He took part in the raids on the oil fields of Ploesti, Romania, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a student of the Slovak and Hungarian cultures and had visited Slovakia several times.
Besides his wife, the former Agnes L. Kocis, whom he married Aug. 16, 1945, he leaves two sons, Michael A. of Masury and Ambrose A. of Warren; three daughters, Mary Agnes Baum of Brookfield, Betty Ann Krapacs of Sharon and Theresa Krapacs of Masury; and six grandchildren.
Three sisters, Mary Yourchisin, Anna Zuhosky and Helen Benson, are deceased.
Private calling hours will be observed. Arrangements are by Pustinger Funeral Home in Farrell.
