Woman robbed at bank
WARREN -- A 33-year-old Lilac Place N.W. woman told police she was robbed as she was leaving the Second National Bank on Parkman Road N.W.
The woman told police she was leaving the bank around 1:10 p.m. Saturday when she was approached by three men. Reports state that one of the men had a gun and demanded that she give them money.
The woman said she was punched in the mouth and hit on the hand. The men fled in a maroon vehicle with gold wheels, reports state.
Gypsy moth spraying
COLUMBUS (AP) -- The state's annual assault on the gypsy moth begins the week of May 7 when it starts spraying insecticides on 38,000 acres of woodland in 19 Ohio counties including Mahoning and Trumbull. The gypsy moth caterpillar is a leaf-eating insect that was responsible last year for defoliating 1.6 million acres from Massachusetts to Wisconsin. In Ohio, officials estimate that about 24,000 acres were defoliated.
Crime Watch meeting
NORTH LIMA -- The Beaver Township Crime Watch meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the activity center at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road. Peg Kratofil, a registered nurse at Shepherd of the Valley, will give a humorous presentation on the "myths of aging."
Lawrence Co. projects
HARRISBURG -- Two Lawrence County projects will benefit from the state's Growing Greener grant program, according to state Sen. Gerald LaValle of Rochester, D-47th. An Ellwood City group working to restore a walking trail in Ewing Park will receive $21,000. The trail was built by men working for the Works Progress Administration, a Depression-era program designed to put people back to work. Lawrence County will also get $10,000 to complete a feasibility study for a proposed community center on the east side of New Castle. Slippery Rock University's Community Service Learning Institute is working to build the center on land donated by Lawrence County. SRU officials say they want the center to be a spot for after-school programs and a place for the elderly in that community.
2 face drug charges
SHARON, Pa. -- The Mercer County Drug Task Force arrested two people sought in connection with drug sales to undercover agents last year.
Thomas C. Reiter, 22, of Shawne Lane, Slippery Rock, formerly of Sharon, surrendered at the police station at 2:30 p.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with possession and sale of marijuana and illegal use of a communication device in July. He was arraigned before District Justice James McMahon, who freed him on his own recognizance.
Police arrested Cleston C. Forrester, 26, of Fruit Avenue, Farrell, around 7:30 p.m. Friday on South Oakland Avenue near the Viaduct. He was wanted on a warrant charging him with possession of cocaine and marijuana and the sale of cocaine to an undercover agent in August. He was arraigned before District Justice Henry Russo, who ordered him held in Mercer County Jail on $5,000 bond.
