WHEATLAND Mayoral race



A former mayor who served the borough for 12 years is challenging the incumbent mayor for the Democratic nomination for that office in the May 15 primary. There are no Republican candidates, so the election should be decided in the primary. An * denotes the incumbent.
THOMAS R. STANTON*
AGE: 68.
HOME: 87 Kedron St.
EMPLOYMENT: Mayor of the borough; retired U.S. Army colonel; coordinator for Shenango Valley Enterprise Zone Corp.
EDUCATION: Graduate of Farrell High School; bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University; master's in education from California State College.
EXPERIENCE: Twelve years as borough mayor, four years as a councilman, five years on the school board and five years on the borough zoning board.
FAMILY: Wife, Marilyn; four adult sons; one adult daughter.
PRIORITY: Getting streets paved; getting sidewalks built from the borough to the Farrell school complex; housing rehabilitation.
HELEN M. DUBY
AGE: 74.
HOME: 61 Hamilton Ave.
EMPLOYMENT: Homemaker; former resident manager of Buchanan Manor, a residential home for the elderly, from 1986 to 1995.
EDUCATION: General Educational Development high school diploma.
EXPERIENCE: Wheatland mayor for 12 years; councilwoman, four years.
FAMILY: Husband, John; two adult daughters.
PRIORITY: To seek state and federal grants to help enhance the borough and prevent depreciation of property; to draw young families to live in the borough.
