NBA PLAYOFF ROUNDUP Saturday's games

Pacers 79, 76ers 78
PHILADELPHIA -- Reggie Miller nailed a 3-pointer with 2.9 seconds remaining to lift Indiana to a comeback victory in Game 1 of the series. Miller, who had missed 16 of his first 20 shots, came around a screen and took a pass from Jalen Rose before launching a 3-pointer from 25 feet that rattled in. The Sixers had a final chance, but Allen Iverson lost his dribble with Miller closely guarding him and couldn't get a shot off as time expired.
Jazz 88, Mavericks 86
SALT LAKE CITY -- Karl Malone scored 26 points and John Stockton had 12 points, 18 assists and two go-ahead free throws with 25.8 seconds remaining as Utah scored the final six points. The Jazz prevailed in a frenzied atmosphere and took a 1-0 lead into Tuesday night's Game 2 in Salt Lake City. Dallas coach Don Nelson was ejected midway through the fourth quarter, and the referees called seven technical fouls and one flagrant foul.
Spurs 87, Timberwolves 82
SAN ANTONIO -- Tim Duncan hit the biggest shot of the game for San Antonio, while Minnesota turned to Dean Garrett -- not Kevin Garnett -- late in the fourth quarter. Duncan had 33 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks for San Antonio in Game 1. Duncan's 15-foot bank shot over Garrett with 12.7 seconds left all but sealed the win for San Antonio, which overcame a poor third quarter and shut down Garnett in the fourth. Game 2 is Monday night at the Alamodome. Garnett led the Timberwolves with 25 points.
Hornets 106, Heat 80
MIAMI -- In the early going, fans booed Jamal Mashburn. By the third period, the jeers were directed at the Miami Heat. Mashburn burned his former team with 28 points, and the Charlotte Hornets stunned Miami in the opening game of their best-of-five playoff series. It was the most points scored against the Heat this season.
