INDIANS NOTEBOOK From Jacobs Field
'Rallies: Saturday's win was the Tribe's fifth come-from-behind victory of the season. It was the 81st time the Indians have won in their final at-bat at Jacobs Field.
Stranded: In the first two innings against Tigers starter Matt Perisho, Indians batters were 0-for-4 with a runner in scoring position.
Overtime: The Indians are 1-1 in extra-inning contests. Both games came on a Saturday afternoon here and ended in 11 innings. The other extra-inning contest was a 4-2 loss to the Orioles on April 7.
Hanging in: With pinch-runner Wendell Magee at second base in the 11th inning, Tigers third baseman Jose Macias fouled off three strike-two pitches from Ricardo Rincon before connecting for a base hit to shallow right field. Juan Gonzalez's throw home was too late and allowed Macias to take second. After ending a Tigers threat in the 10th inning with one pitch, Rincon walked Tony Clark on four pitches to open the 11th inning.
Long outing: Paul Shuey pitched the eighth, ninth and two outs in the 10th inning for his longest outing since 1998. Shuey, who has been used mostly as a set-up man the past two seasons, said he "wasn't exactly shocked" when Manuel sent him back out in the 10th inning. "I had gotten through the [Tigers batting] order pretty well for two innings, so he asked me to go back out." Shuey said it becomes dangerous when he faces a hitter for the second time and he has to decide on a different approach. Shane Halter's one-out single was followed by walks to Roger Cedeno and Damion Easley, prompting Manuel to call for Rincon to face Bobby Higginson. "I kind of ran out of gas," Shuey said of the walks. Rincon retired Higginson on a pop fly on his first pitch. Despite his three innings of work, Shuey said he could pitch in today's game if called upon.
