Funds available for scrap-tire collection

WARREN -- The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District will financially assist cities, villages and townships within the two-county district that have agreed to implement scrap-tire collection programs.
Funds were offered to all communities, and the following applied for and received grants: the cities of Girard, Hubbard, Newton Falls, Niles and Warren; the villages of Lordstown and McDonald; and the townships of Bazetta, Bloomfield, Bristol, Brookfield, Farmington, Fowler, Hartford, Howland, Hubbard, Liberty, Mecca, Newton, Southington, Vienna, Warren and Weathersfield.
The district has $120,000 in available grant funds and divides this amount between the communities that apply. The amount each community receives is based on its population.
Funds will be used to create scrap-tire drop-off sites, curbside collection programs and to clean up illegally dumped tires in these communities.
For more information about cleanup efforts in your community, call your local officials.
Additionally, the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District will have a one-day tire collection from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 27 at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.
There's a limit of eight tires per vehicle, and it's for district residents only. For information call (800) 707-2673.
