'Farewell' to premiere
CANFIELD -- The world premiere of "Farewell to Dana," a concert march by Dr. Edward J. Largent, a retiring Dana School of Music professor, will be performed by Youngstown State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble at 8 p.m. Monday at Old North Church, 7105 Herbert Road. Admission is free. Largent has taught music theory, harmony and sight-singing since 1970. He will be a guest conductor Monday. The ensemble will also feature principal trombonist Douglas Kost, performing the trombone solo "Blue Bells of Scotland." Guest conductor for this piece will be Kost's instructor, Dr. Michael L. Crist, of the Dana faculty. Copies of Symphonic Wind Ensemble's latest CD, "Star Wars and Other Scores!", will be for sale.
Playhouse delays run
YOUNGSTOWN -- Performances of "La Cage Aux Folles" at Youngstown Playhouse have been postponed until summer. A Playhouse spokeswoman said more time was needed to fill roles and to allow the musical director to recuperate from illness. Performances will be from July 12 to 21. Auditions will be at 7 p.m. May 8 and 9 at the Playhouse. The annual Arthur Awards will be May 26, as scheduled.
Reese to perform
YOUNGSTOWN -- Steven Reese, English professor at Youngstown State University, author and musician, will be performing original songs from his CD, "The Feast of St. Monday" at 7 p.m. Friday at Peaberry's Pub in Kilcawley Center at YSU. Also performing will be Kelly Bancroft, vocalist, and Jeff Sanders, musician. Donations, accepted at the door, will benefit for the Rich Center for the Study and Treatment of Autism.
Flute recital planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- British flutist William Bennett will present a recital at 7 p.m. next Sunday at Butler Institute of American Art. He will be accompanied by Clifford Benson, pianist. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door for adults and $5 in advance and $7 at the door for students. YSU students with valid YSU IDs will be admitted free.
