County-by-county activities for Earth Day today and next week:
MAHONING COUNTY
Youngstown: Earth Day festival, noon to 4 p.m. today at the Ford Nature Center, Mill Creek Park. Events will include a "Reno and Becki Lee Show," a parody of "Live With Regis and Kathie Lee"; an outdoor scavenger hunt; and crafts for children. Singer Dean Wilson will perform. Call the center at (330) 740-7107 for more information.Austintown: Earth Day celebration at Austintown Park, noon to 2 p.m. today at Pogany Pavilion. A "Mother Earth, Father Time" skit, sponsored by the Rural Recycling Education and Awareness program, will be featured. The park's stream will be officially named. Boy and Girl Scouts will help with park cleanup. A hike also is scheduled.
TRUMBULL COUNTY
Warren: Earth Day-related cleanup, 9 a.m. April 28. Meet at Warren Presbyterian Church. To preregister, call (330) 746-7601 and ask for Kim.Appliance collection, 9 a.m. to noon April 28 at the Trumbull County Engineer's yard, 650 N. River Road, Warren.Liberty: Township cleanup, noon to 5 p.m. April 28-29. Meet at the township building. Free tree seedlings for the first 100 volunteers; free Earth Day T-shirts for the first 25 volunteers each day.
BUTLER COUNTY
Slippery Rock: Earth Fest, 3 to 5 p.m. today at Slippery Rock University's Macoskey Center. Event will include workshops and food. The Wolf Creek Wailers will perform.
LAWRENCE COUNTY
New Wilmington: Westminster College will have various Earth Day events. For more information, call the college at (724) 946-8761 and ask for student affairs. New Castle: "Save Money, Save the Earth," a discussion about reusing items, reducing waste and recycling, 2 p.m. today at McConnell's Mill State Park's Kildoo picnic area.
