Ohio residents who are 60 and older may apply for the Golden Buckeye Card during a sign-up session from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the community booth at the Eastwood Mall, Niles.
Others eligible for the card are those permanently disabled. Applicants must show proof of age by presenting a valid Ohio driver's license, birth certificate or other legal document bearing their date of birth. Disabled people must show proof of disability by presenting documents from a state or federal agency or a medical practitioner.
Businesses interested in participating in the program also may get information at this time.
DNA LifePrint event
NILES -- Parents will be able to get a DNA fingerprint of their children.
DNA LifePrint Child Safety Safari will be at Jim Pace Pontiac, 430 Youngstown-Warren Road, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The program, endorsed by "America's Most Wanted" host John Walsh, uses a kit to take a DNA sample from each child by rubbing the inside of the child's cheek with an applicator. Parents keep the samples.
The program is free to the public. Parents also will get safety tips and instructions on preserving the DNA sample.
Internet class
NILES -- The McKinley Memorial Library will offer free Internet class for adults in May:
*Introduction to the Internet: 10 a.m. May 5; 6:30 p.m. May 10 and May 31.
*Intermediate Internet: 1 p.m. May 5 and 10 a.m. May 15.

Adoption conference
WARREN -- Northeast Ohio Adoption Services will hold its annual Barbara Lewis Roberts Mentoring Lecture Series on May 1 at Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown. Speaker will be Karen Vadino of Liberty. Area foster and adoptive parents and social work professionals are invited.
