BENEFIT YWCA to sponsor art exhibit



The exhibit will feature works created by women in a variety of media.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The YWCA of Youngstown will hold its 20th annual "Women Artists: A Celebration" exhibit May 4-19 at The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave.
Displayed will be work by women artists, including paintings, drawings, graphics, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fiber, metal work and computer-generated art. Over $1,000 in merit prizes will be awarded, and the judge will be Laura Vinnedge, assistant professor of Meyers School of Art at the University of Akron.
The exhibit is designed to provide an opportunity for women artists to display their work and enables the YWCA to raise funds to support its Barbara Wick Transitional House for homeless women and children.
A patron party with a "Cinco de Mayo" theme will open the event at 6 p.m. May 4. Patron sponsorship levels are available at $35 for singles, $70 for couples, $100 for grand patrons and $250 for benefactors. A preview party will follow from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission for the general public will be $15 and for contributing artists and students, $10.
Drawings: A raffle will be held during the preview party for a gift certificate, house portrait, overnight stay and breakfast, and a silver necklace and earrings.
Hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be available at the patron and preview events along with live music.
Additional viewing of the exhibit will be open to the public free of charge for the remainder of the show.
